Fish and Chips Explainer
This explainer, created for BBC News Arabic, was developed in collaboration with the executive producer and lead presenter of the ‘Trending’ programme. I was responsible for designing all the graphic elements, with the objective of providing an overview of the history of fish and chips in the UK.
To align with the film’s light tone, I crafted a series of backgrounds and illustrations featuring a slightly comical style. The illustrations were primarily flat with bold outlines, referencing the aesthetic of other animations produced for ‘Trending’ to ensure consistency. The interaction between the green screen presenter footage and the backgrounds became a defining characteristic of subsequent explainers created specifically for this programme.
Additionally, the script was in Arabic, which presented a language barrier that I successfully navigated. I take pride in this accomplishment, as it provided me with a valuable new perspective on how to overcome the language barrier in the creative process.
